Sometimes (like today) she’s excited from the moment I mention it, and other times, I have to get creative with my persuasion. This reminds me of back when I would sit all my babies around me with paper, pencils & crayons. At first, it was so that I can write (they were my little audience), but then, especially when I think of it now, it became a goal to learn how to read, so they can read my poetry. I remember when I started writing script, because they were getting bigger, until my eldest proved she could now read & write script, and then the goal became trying to sneak and find mamma’s papers. Well, this originated with my little sister, who witnessed her big sis writing small plays, forcing them all to read & memorize their lines (I even held auditions), but with that I shared my love for words & the different stories one can read, or write. The end result was that till this day (in these times) when social media is everything to this generation & the attention spam is (well you know) my grown girls still enjoy & look forward to reading a new book, and they are all well spoken (when need be) an each one is an amazing writer. I love that they buy books for my grand kids & that it’s such a big deal to my granddaughters when they are allowed to go to the book store & choose their own book, and of course, when they spend time with me, I always find the way for them to spend some time writing, or drawing, exercising their thinking/creative skills & expanding their vocabulary. Don’t get me twisted, there’s also candy involved & a good Disney movie & even some time on their gadgets, but it is our responsibility to ensure they get a good education, not just in school, but by example. So, for any readers who are parents, or grandparents (make learning) fun and exciting. God Bless.
